The Orofino Kiwanis Foundation was incorporated on July 9, 1990 and received 501(c)(3) status on August 9, 1996. It was originally set up to endow scholarships for Orofino High School graduates pursuing a medical career and for other eleemosynary activities. Scholarships are now awarded to members of the graduating class of Orofino High School or to former graduates of Orofino High School pursuing college or vocational training. All Orofino High School students or former students, regardless of race, color, nationality. ethnic origin, age or sex are eligible for consideration.
Capital for the endowment fund comes from donations by private individuals, private trusts, estates, club members, and the Kiwanis Club of Orofino. The Kiwanis Club of Orofino has donated $500, which it raises through its fund raising activities, each year to the Foundation. The Club pays all expenses incurred by the Foundation so all donated funds will go to growing the fund and can be used for scholarships and community need.
